Keeping your parents' stories when they don't type

There is a moment in many families, often at a wedding or a janazah, when someone says: we should really write down Baba's stories. Everyone agrees. Nobody does it. Not from laziness, but because sitting a parent down with a blank page is asking them to become a writer at seventy.

Services like Storyworth turned that wish into a product: one emailed question a week, typed replies, a printed book after a year. For families where the storyteller is comfortable typing English emails every week, it works. But read the unhappy reviews and one pattern repeats: the parent answers three questions, then the project goes quiet. The writing is the wall.

Our parents already tell stories. Just not by email.

Think about how your mother actually communicates. She sends four-minute voice notes to the family group chat. She tells the same story better out loud every Eid.
